PROSPERITY
MEMORY VERSE: They drop upon the
pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side (Psalm
65:12).
Sometimes those who prosper rejoice less than the poor. They
hold earth's trinkets so tightly that the fear of losing them is ever with them.
Often they have become slaves to the prosperity that has been their goal in
life.
A few wealthy and prosperous people are free from the bondage
of their possessions. A Christian doctor was asked what he had done during the
past week. He replied, "On Monday, I preached the gospel in Brazil. Tuesday, I
ministered among the Mexican people in southwest Texas. Wednesday, I operated on
patients in a hospital in Africa. Thursday, I taught in a mission school in
Japan. Friday, I helped establish a new church in California. Saturday, I taught
classes in our seminaries. Sunday, I distributed Bibles in Korea."
The astonished questioner asked, "How could you be in so many
places, doing so many different things?"
"I wasn't," said the doctor with a twinkle in his eye, "for I
have been busy with my patients every day. But, you see, I hold the dollars God
has enabled me to earn in trust for God, and some of them have been channeled
into the places of need I have mentioned."
Walter Brown Knight wrote: "There are two ways to be rich --
one is to have all you want, and the other is to be satisfied with what you
have."
The real secret of joy in prosperity is the ability of
rejoicing in the One who gives the power to get wealth. Rejoice in Him! All we
have is from His hand.
The Provision of God
Even before I ever knew that there would be a God Speed Ministry,
God spoke to my heart, telling me that if I ever had a ministry I was not to do
any kind of fundraisers. I was to depend totally upon Him as my Source for
everything. He is my Heavenly Father and my Provider. I was not to doubt that
He would take care of my needs or provide for me in every area.
God so impressed that upon me that it is written into the by-laws
of God Speed Ministry. This is His ministry, totally. He leads. He guides.
He provides.
But with all knowledge comes testing, proving.
God Speed Ministry has made the commitment to cover every IHRA
event: nationals, pro ams, bracket finals, junior dragster nationals. We
stepped out on faith.
I really didn’t worry about the national events because I work
for IHRA in the control tower. That covers my expenses and takes the burden off
the ministry.
Then IHRA decided not to take me to work the Rocky Mountain
Nationals in Edmonton, Canada. The ministry still needed to cover the event but
the cost would be substantial. After talking with the board of directors, it
was determined that God Speed would send me and we would trust God for
provision. After all, this had not caught Him off-guard. He knew this was
coming, so He also knew the way through.
That decision was made on Wednesday or Thursday. The ministry
had about $3000.00 in funds. We knew this decision would require the major part
of this.
Then…
On Monday morning, about 8:30 a.m., I received a phone call from
Evan Knoll of Torco Racing Fuels and Bobby Bennett of Torco Competition
Plus.com. Evan stated that he knew the cost of fuel and wanted to do something
to help God Speed. “I want to give the ministry $5000.00 to help with traveling
expenses.”
I sank to my knees in tears. Evan could have stated that he
wanted to make a donation to the ministry and let it go at that. But he
specifically stated, “… to help with traveling expenses.” No one but God and
the board of directors knew of our need to travel to Edmonton.
God laid it on Evan’s heart and placed the words in His mouth to
specifically minister to this ministry. God is faithful. God is good.
We please God by believing: believing that He is, believing that
He rewards those who seek Him, believing His Word is true, believing and
trusting Him to be our Heavenly Father.
“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to
give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give
good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11
I don’t know where you are today, but I know where God is and
what He can do. God is still God. He is still on the throne of Heaven. He is
greater than anything we face.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy
laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain
you; he will never let the righteous fall”. Psalm 55:22
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares
for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
